At the University of Arizona a variety aned growing set of proteomics and mass spectrometry instrumentation exists to aid researchers with analyses. These can be for both small and biological molecules. The list below defines the various features and capabilities of our current instrumentation. If more information is required, please contact the Proteomics personnel.

Protein Characterization
Three types of ion traps are primarily used to identify and characterize proteins in solution or in-gel. They vary in their design, capacity, sensitivity and operation modes.

Thermo Finnigan LTQ (2 instruments)

These nano LC-MS/MS instruments are configured with a nano-flow HPLC, an autosampler system, and nano-electrospray sources built at the University of Arizona. Optimized for peptide (from protein) identification and observation of post-translational modifications in proteins, these instruments have typical sensitivity achieved on this instrument from a standard BSA digest is in the range of 30-50 fmol. In addition, it has modes of scanning available for targeted analysis and to assist in finding modifications that can be identified by neutral loss. More information about Thermo instruments can be found at the manufacturers website

Thermo Finnigan DecaXP

These nano LC-MS/MS instruments are configured with a nano-flow HPLC, an autosampler system, and nano-electrospray sources built at the University of Arizona. Optimized for peptide (from protein) identification and observation of post-translational modifications in proteins, these instruments have typical sensitivity achieved on this instrument from a standard BSA digest is in the range of 100-150 fmol. In addition, it has modes of scanning available for targeted analysis. More information about Thermo instruments can be found at the manufacturers website

Funding support for these instruments include the University of Arizona (VP Research Office) and NIH Grant # XXXXXXX
